(בראשית יח, ז) ואל הבקר רץ אברהם אמר רב יהודה אמר רב בן בקר אחד רך שנים וטוב שלשה ואימא חד כדאמרי אינשי רכיך וטב

<i>And Abraham ran unto the herd and fetched a calf, tender and good</i>. Rab said: <i>'A calf'</i>, means one; <i>'tender'</i> — two; and <i>'good'</i> — three. But perhaps it [all means] one, as people say, a tender and good [calf]? — If so, Scripture should have written, [a calf] tender, good; why 'and' good? This proves that it is for exegesis.<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' I.e., implying another. ');">¹²</span> Then perhaps it means two?<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' Since the first adjective has no copulative. ');">¹³</span>
