וסבר לה כר' יהודה דאמר בעינן עירוב על גבי מקום ארבעה וליכא

It is this rather that he<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' R. Judah.');"><sup>7</sup></span> meant: [If the pole<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' On the top of which the 'erub was placed.');"><sup>8</sup></span> was] ten [handbreadths] high it is necessary<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' If the 'erub is to be effective.');"><sup>9</sup></span> that at its top it shall be four [handbreadths wide],<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' Such a width constitutes a private domain and, as explained supra n. 5, the 'erub is effective. If the width, however, is less than four handbreadths the 'erub, resting in no 'domain' and being suspended, so to speak, in the air, must be ineffective.');"><sup>10</sup></span>
