יתיב רב פפא וקא אמר להא שמעתא איתיביה רב בר שבא לרב פפא כיצד הוא עושה מוליכו בראשון ומחשיך עליו ונוטלו ובא לו בשני מחשיך עליו ואוכלו ובא לו

He arranges [for the 'erub'] to be carried [by a deputy<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' Cf Rashi s.v. and Tosaf. s.v. a.l.');"><sup>30</sup></span> to the required spot] on the firs day,<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' Sc. on the festival eve.');"><sup>31</sup></span> and, having remained there with it until dusk,<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' When, the 'abode' is acquired.');"><sup>32</sup></span> he takes it [with him]<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' For fear it gets lost.');"><sup>33</sup></span> and goes away.<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' Lit., 'and comes for himself'.');"><sup>34</sup></span> On the second day<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' Friday, which is the Sabbath eve.');"><sup>35</sup></span> he [again] comes [with it] and keeps it there until dusk<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' When, the 'abode' is acquired.');"><sup>32</sup></span> when he may consume it<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' Since the 'erub already served its purpose.
