לאפוקי מדהני תנאי דתנן העיד רבי יהושע ור' יהודה בן בתירא על אלמנת עיסה שכשירה לכהונה מאי טעמא הוי ספק ספיקא וספק ספיקא לקולא

What is the reason? Because it is a double doubt,<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' Lit., 'the doubt of a doubt.' Thus, the unfitness even of her husband is only doubtful; and since her unfitness is through him, we regard it as a still weaker doubt, i.e., a double doubt.');">¹¹</span> and a double doubt [inclines] to a lenient ruling.<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' We always give a lenient ruling in such a case.');">¹²</span>
