רבי חייא בר אשי הוה רגיל כל עידן דהוה נפל לאפיה הוה אמר הרחמן יצילנו מיצר הרע יומא חד שמעתינהו דביתהו אמרה מכדי הא כמה שני דפריש ליה מינאי מאי טעמא קאמר הכי
Fleeing, he hid in a privy; he [Satan] followed him, and he [Pelimo] fell before him. Seeing how he was suffering, he disclosed his identity and said to him, why have you [always] spoken thus?<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' Cursing me.');"><sup>3</sup></span> Then how am I to speak?<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' To drive you from me?');"><sup>4</sup></span> You should say: 'The Merciful rebuke Satan.'<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' Cf.
