אמר לו רבש"ע יש עבד שתובע את רבו אמר לו נחל קישון יהא לי ערב מיד פלט אותן ליבשה ובאו ישראל וראו אותן שנאמר (שמות יד, ל) וירא ישראל את מצרים מת על שפת הים
This teaches that in that moment the Israelites were rebellious and said: Just as we ascend at one side [of the sea] so do the Egyptians ascend from another. Whereupon the Holy One, blessed be He, ordered the Prince of the Sea,<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' According to ancient beliefs the sea, like the elements in general, were in charge of particular angels.');"><sup>4</sup></span>
