לדברי חכמים ארס נחש מעצמו הוא מקיא לפיכך נחש בסקילה והמכיש פטור:

Raba also said: if witnesses testified [to murder] against a <i>terefah</i> and were then confuted,<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' It being proved they they were absent from the scene of the alleged murder. ');">¹⁸</span>
