Commentary for Shabbat 179:1
במיני מתיקה שנו הואיל וראויין למתק קדירה טעמא דחזו למתק את הקדירה הא לאו הכי לא הכא נמי חזו למתק:
They learnt this of sweetening condiments,<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' I.e., where the different kinds of spices are all for sweetening. ');"><sup>1</sup></span> Since they are fit for sweetening a dish. Thus it is only because they are fit for sweetening a dish, but otherwise it is not so? — Here too [in our Mishnah] they are fit for sweetening.
