EXECUTION BY THE SWORD WAS PERFORMED THUS: THE CONDEMNED MAN WAS DECAPITATED BY THE SWORD, AS IS DONE BY THE CIVIL AUTHORITIES.<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' Under the Empire the Romans practised various forms of execution.
