Commentary for Berakhot 118:4

מאי (בראשית ב, יד) חדקל א"ר אשי שמימיו חדין וקלין מאי פרת שמימיו פרין ורבין

Why [is the Tigris called] Hiddekel (Gen. ii. 14). Rab Ashe said : Its waters are sharp [had] and swift [kal]. Why [is the Euphrates called] Perat? Because its waters are fruitful [parah] and multiply.
