Whenever R'Johanan used to see the shalak he would exclaim: Thy judgments are like the great deep,<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' Ps. XXXVI, 7. God's righteousness extends to the tiny ant so that its food is always ready and constant as the mighty mountains; whereas his judgments reach the rapacious cormorant so that it must search for its food out of the depths of the sea (Rashi) .');">¹⁰</span>
