For according to R'Judah he suffers stripes but need not let it go, and according to the Sages he must let it go but does not suffer stripes? - In truth he adopted the view of the Sages, but [the flogging] was chastisement of the Rabbis.<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' The punishment decreed by the Rabbis for disobedience as opposed to stripes ordained by Biblical law.');">¹⁶</span>
