Commentary for Ketubot 140:5

ומאי שנא עד ל' יום עד ל' יום לא שמעי בה אינשי ולא זילא בה מילתא טפי שמעי בה אינשי וזילא בה מילתא

And why for thirty days? For up to thirty days people would not become aware of it, and it will not be degrading for her; but after a longer period people would hear of it, and the matter would be degrading to her.
