Commentary for Ketubot 173:7

ורב יוסף אמר רבי חייא דלא נדר ודלא שבועה הוא אינו יכול להשביעה אבל יורשין משביעין אותה נקי נדר נקי שבועה בין הוא ובין יורשין משביעין אותה ה"ק לה נקי נפשך בשבועתא

But R. Joseph stated in the name of R. Hiyya: [If he said,] “Neither vow nor oath” he who cannot impose an oath on her but his heirs may; [But if he wrote,] “Free from vow, free from oath,” both he and his heirs may impose an oath on her [since by such an expression] he thus meant to say to her, “Clear yourself by means of an oath.”
