אתא רמי בר חמא לקמיה דרב ששת אוקמיה בנכסא אתא מר עוקבא לקמיה דרב נחמן אוקמיה בנכסא אתא רב ששת לקמיה דרב נחמן א"ל מ"ט עבד מר הכי א"ל ומ"ט עבד מר הכי

Rami b. Hama came before R. Sheshet who confirmed him in the possession of the property. Mar Ukba then appeared before R. Nahman who similarly confirmed him in the possession of the property. Sheshet came to R. Nahman and said to him, “What is the reason that the Master has acted in this way?” He said back, “And what is the reason that the Master has acted in that way?” He said: Because his deed came first.
