Commentary for Ketubot 74:1

וחדא במיתה ומלקות וצריכא דאי אשמעינן מיתה וממון משום דחדא בגופיה וחדא בממוניה לא עבדינן אבל במיתה ומלקות דאידי ואידי בגופיה אימא מיתה אריכתא היא ונעביד ביה

and one refers to the penalties of death and lashes. And [both texts were] needed. For if we had been told only that one cannot be executed and pay a fine, this would be because we don’t punish a person with his body and with his money, but when it comes to death and lashes, both of which are with his body, I might have said that this is one long death, and we should perform it.
