(דברי הימים ב כב, ט) ויבקש את אחזיהו וילכדהו והוא מתחבא בשמרון א"ר לוי שהיה קודר אזכרות וכותב עבודת כוכבים תחתיהן

R. Levi said: He was engaged in erasing the Divine Names [from the Torah] and substituting [the names of] idols in their stead.<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' [This was the sacrilege which he carried on in his hiding place.] ');">²⁹</span> Manasseh [denotes] that he forgot God.<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' [Manasseh is connected with the root nashah [H] 'to forget'.] ');">³⁰</span>
