תנו רבנן ונגש הכהן ודבר אל העם יכול כל כהן שירצה ת"ל (דברים כ, ה) ודברו השוטרים מה שוטרים בממונה אף כהן בממונה ואימא כהן גדול דומיא דשוטר מה שוטר שיש ממונה על גביו אף כהן שיש ממונה על גביו

so also the priest [who addresses the people] has a superior appointed over him.<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' Therefore the High Priest is excluded. ');">²³</span> But the High Priest likewise [has a superior over him]. viz., the king! — He is referring to his service.<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' In the Temple. In this sphere the High Priest is supreme. ');">²⁴</span>
