מאי ואומר וכי תימא כי היכי דנפישי בני אלעזר הכא נמי דנפישי בני איתמר שמנה מעיקרא ארבעה הוו ת"ש בית אב אחד אחוז לאלעזר ואחוז אחוז לאיתמר תיובתא דרב חמא בר גוריא

R'Hama B'Guria said in the name of Rab: Moses instituted for Israel eight Mishmaroth, four from [the family of] Eleazar and four from [the family of] Ithamar; Samuel came and increased them to sixteen; David came and increased them to twenty-four, as it is said, In the fortieth year of the reign of David they were sought for, and there were found among them mighty men of valour at Jazer of Gilead.<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' I Chron.
