ת"ר גחלים לוחשות מברכין עליהן אוממות אין מברכין עליהן ה"ד לוחשות אמר רב חסדא כל שאילו מכניס לתוכן קיסם ודולקת מאיליה

Our Rabbis have taught : We may say the benediction over glowing coals, but not over dying coals. What is to be understood by glowing coals? Rab Hisda said : When one puts a chip of wood to them and it ignites.
