Midrash for Sanhedrin 178:4

מנא ידעי אמר אביי דכתיב (עמוס ג, ז) כי לא יעשה ה' [אלהים] דבר כי אם גלה סודו ודילמא הדרי ביה אם איתא דהדרי ביה אודועי הוו מודעי לכלהו נביאי

Who then warned him?<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' For how can anyone know that he suppressed a prophecy? ');"><sup>7</sup></span> Abaye answered; His fellow prophets, Whence do they know? — Said Abaye; For it is written, Surely the Lord will do nothing but that he revealeth his secret [unto his servants the prophets].<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' Amos III, 7. ');"><sup>8</sup></span>

Sifrei Devarim

"to turn you astray from the way": It is written here "turning astray," and, elsewhere (Ibid. 11) (in respect to one who incites to idol worship), "turning astray." Just as there the punishment is stoning, so, here. R. Shimon says: This one's death is only by strangulation.
