Midrash for Sanhedrin 178:7

דאי לא תימא הכי אברהם בהר המוריה היכי שמע ליה יצחק אליהו בהר הכרמל היכי סמכי עליה ועבדי שחוטי חוץ אלא היכא דמוחזק שאני

or the people hearken to Elijah at Mount Carmel and sacrifice without [the Temple]?<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' This being normally forbidden. ');"><sup>13</sup></span> Hence the case, where the prophet is well established is different.

Sifrei Devarim

"to turn you astray from the way": It is written here "turning astray," and, elsewhere (Ibid. 11) (in respect to one who incites to idol worship), "turning astray." Just as there the punishment is stoning, so, here. R. Shimon says: This one's death is only by strangulation.
