מי שהיה חבוש בבית האסורין מנלן דכתיב יושבי חשך וצלמות וגו' כי המרו אמרי אל וגו' ואומר ויכנע בעמל לבם וגו' ואומר ויזעקו אל ה' בצר להם ואומר יוציאם מחשך וצלמות וגו' ואומר יודו לה' חסדו

"The prisoner who has been set free" — whence have we this? For it is written, "Such as sat in darkness and in the shadow of death... because they rebelled against the words of God... Therefore He humbled their heart with travail... They cried unto the Lord in their trouble... He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death... Let them give thanks unto the Lord for His mercy" (ibid. vv. 10-15).
