Musar for Sanhedrin 161:5

בעא מניה (אבוה) דרב יוסף בר חמא מרבה בר נתן מנא הא מילתא דאמור רבנן מי שנתחייב שתי מיתות ב"ד נידון בחמורה דכתיב (יחזקאל יח, י) והוליד בן פריץ שופך דם [וגו'] אל ההרים אכל ואת אשת רעהו טמא ואל הגלולים נשא עיניו

<b><i>GEMARA</i></b>. Is it not obvious [that he is executed by the severer]: shall he then profit [by his additional crime]? Raba answered: The circumstances are these: First he committed the lighter offence, for which he was sentenced; then the more serious one. I might think, since he was already under sentence for the lighter offence, he is as a dead man [and cannot be further sentenced] — We are therefore taught otherwise.

Mesilat Yesharim

For it is not only the explicit and well known deed of theft or oppression which is forbidden but rather anything which may eventually lead to such a deed and cause it is included in the prohibition. On this our sages of blessed memory said (Sanhedrin 81a): "'he did not defile the wife of his fellow' (Yechezkel 18:6) - that he did not encroach upon his fellow's trade".
