ההיא איתתא דהוו מיפקדי גבה מלוגא דשטרי אתו יורשים קא תבעי ליה מינה אמרה להו מחיים תפיסנא להו אתאי לקמי' דרב נחמן אמר לה אית ליך סהדי דתבעוה מיניך מחיים ולא יהבית ניהליה א"ל לא א"כ הוי תפיסה דלאחר מיתה ותפיסה דלאחר מיתה לא כלום היא

There was a certain woman with whom a bundle of bonds was once deposited. The heirs [of the depositor] came to claim it from her. She said to them, “I seized them during [the depositor’s] lifetime.” She came in front of R. Nahman. He said to her, “Do you have witnesses that it was claimed from you during [the depositor’s] lifetime and that you refused to return it?” She replied, “No.” He said to her, “If so your seizure is one that took place after [the owner’s] death, and such a seizure is invalid.”
