Moses referred to the merit of others; as it is said, "Remember Abraham, Isaac and Israel, Thy servants" (ibid, xxxii. 13), and his own merit was referred to ; as it is said, "Therefore He said that He would destroy them, had not Moses His chosen stood before Him in the breach, to turn back His wrath, lest He should destroy them" (Ps. cvi. 23).
