אלא אמר רבא גזירה משום יום המעונן אי הכי אפילו בארבע שעות נמי לא ניכול אמר רב פפא ד' זמן סעודה לכל היא

Our Rabbis taught: The first hour [of the day] is the mealtime for gladiators;<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' Whose diet requires special attention (Jast.) ; or perhaps, circus attendants.');">¹⁷</span> the second is the mealtime for robbers;<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' Rashi: Both are rapacious, hence they eat so early; but robbers, being awake all night, sleep during the first hour of the day.');">¹⁸</span>
