תנא דבי ר' ישמעאל אם ראית תלמיד חכם שעבר עבירה בלילה אל תהרהר אחריו ביום שמא עשה תשובה שמא סלקא דעתך אלא ודאי עשה תשובה והני מילי בדברים שבגופו אבל בממונא עד דמהדר למריה:

It was taught by the school of R. Ishmael : If thou seest a scholar committing an offence at night, do not criticise him for it by day ; perhaps he has repented by then. Dost thou imagine perhaps he has repented? Nay, he has certainly repented. This refers only to an offence concerned with his person ; but in a matter involving money, [he may be criticised] until he refunds it to its owner.
