<big><strong>גמ׳</strong></big> מאי טעמא שרו ליה רבנן למיתב כיסיה לנכרי קים להו לרבנן דאין אדם מעמיד עצמו על ממונו אי לא שרית ליה אתי לאיתויי ד' אמות ברה"ר

His disciples asked him, Does then one know on what day he will die? Then all the more reason that he repent to-day, he replied, lest he die to-morrow, and thus his whole life is spent in repentance. And Solomon too said in his wisdom, Let thy garments be always white; and let not thy head lack ointment.<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' Eccl. IX, 8. ');"><sup>10</sup></span>

Q. Before leaving his place in order to participate in congregational services, A gave money to a Gentile and told him to hire workers immediately and build A's house. Is such an act permissible?
A. A Jew is not permitted to tell a Gentile before the Sabbath to work for him on the Sabbath.
