ולמה מוציאין את התיבה לרחובה של עיר אמר ר' יהושע בן לוי לומר כלי צנוע היה לנו ונתבזה בעוונינו
And why do they clothe themselves in sackcloth? - R'Hiyya B'Abba said: In order to express thereby [the idea], We consider ourselves animals<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' Because sackcloth is woven of the hair of animals (Rashi) .');"><sup>3</sup></span> [before God].
