Commentary for Berakhot 29:9
גמ׳ מאי טעמא דר' יוסי משום דכתיב שמע השמע לאזנך מה שאתה מוציא מפיך ות"ק סבר שמע בכל לשון שאתה שומע
GEMARA What is R. Jose's reason [for declaring that unless the Shema' is read audibly the requirements of the law have not been fulfilled]? Because it is written, "Hear O Israel," i.e. let thine ear hear what thou issuest from thy mouth. And the first Tanna ? He holds that "Hear" [means that the Shema' may be read] in any language which thou hearest.
Abraham Cohen Footnotes to the English Translation of Masechet Berakhot
Who allows it to be read inaudibly, how does he explain "Hear"? See fol 13 a, p. 83.
