Commentary for Berakhot 37:23

הכי נמי קאמר אם יכולין להתחיל ולגמור אפי' פרק אחד או אפילו פסוק אחד עד שלא יגיעו לשורה יתחילו ואם לאו לא יתחילו

Here likewise it means that ... if they are able to begin and finish one paragraph or even one verse, before reaching the row, they should begin ; but if not, they should not commence it.
