Commentary for Berakhot 7:6

וכיון דמשה הוה ידע למה ליה למימר כחצות משה קסבר שמא יטעו אצטגניני פרעה ויאמרו משה בדאי הוא דאמר מר למד לשונך לומר איני יודע שמא תתבדה ותאחז

And since Moses knew it, what object had he in saying "About mid-night" ? Moses thought that perhaps Pharaoh's astrologers would err and say, "Moses is a liar." For a teacher has said : Teach thy tongue to say, "I do not know," lest thou be led to falsehoods and be apprehended.
