Commentary for Berakhot 80:1

אבל היכא דכי שקלת ליה לפירי ליתיה לגווזא דהדר מפיק לא מברכינן עליה בורא פרי העץ אלא בפה"א:

but where, if thou takest away the fruit, there is no stem to produce again fruit, we do not say the benediction "...Who createst the fruit of the tree" but "...Who createst the fruit of the ground."
