R. Zera said in the name of Raba b. Jeremiah : From what time may we say the benediction over the smell [of the perfume]? From the time its column of smoke ascends. R. Zera said to Raba b. Jeremiah , "But one has not yet smelt it!" He replied, "According to thy reasoning, one says the Grace before meals but has not yet eaten ! His intention is to eat, and so here likewise it is his intention to smell."
