Commentary for Gittin 113:5

תניא אמר רבי אלעזר בא וראה כמה גדולה כחה של בושה שהרי סייע הקב"ה את בר קמצא והחריב את ביתו ושרף את היכלו:

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; 'Through a cock and a hen Tur Malka was destroyed'. How? — It was the custom that when a bride and bridegroom were being escorted a cock and a hen were carried before them, as if to say, Be fruitful and multiply like fowls. One day a band of Roman soldiers passed by and took the animals from them, so the Jews fell on them and beat them. So they went and reported to the Emperor that the Jews were rebelling, and he marched against them. There came against them one Bar Daroma<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' Lit., 'Son of the South'. ');"><sup>4</sup></span>

And he learned it from, "and much study (lahag) is a weariness of the flesh (Kohelet 12:12)": Whoever mocks (malig) much will be sentenced to weariness of the flesh; and this verse is written about the words of the Scribes (the rabbis) [as the first part of it is understood as], "My son, be careful to fulfill the words of the Scribes even more than the words of the Torah."
