Halakhah for Shabbat 303:15

ואמר רבי יצחק קשה רימה למת כמחט בבשר החי שנאמר (איוב יד, כב) אך בשרו עליו יכאב אמר רב חסדא נפשו של אדם מתאבלת עליו כל שבעה שנא' ונפשו עליו תאבל וכתיב (בראשית נ, י) ויעש לאביו אבל שבעת ימים

R. Isaac also said: Worms are as painful to the dead as a needle in the flesh of the living, for it is said, But his flesh upon him hath pain.<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' Job XIV, 22. ');"><sup>38</sup></span> R. Hisda said: A man's soul mourns for him [after death] seven whole [days]. for it is said, And his soul mourneth for him;<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' Job XIV, 22. ');"><sup>39</sup></span> and it is written, and he made a mourning for his father seven days.<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' Gen. L, 10. ');"><sup>40</sup></span>

And that which they said there that the one who is completely righteous in judgement is sealed immediately for life in the World To Come. Do not think that the World To Come is something that is identical for all righteous people; for in that life there are countless gradations, and each righteous person rises to the fitting level according to his reward (See Shabbat 152a). And the rest of the details about these matters are there in the first chapter of Rosh Hashanah (see Tur, Orach Chaim 602-603).
