Midrash for Ketubot 135:2
ותני רבי חייא בר רב מדיפתי רבי יהושע בן קרחה אומר כל המעלים עיניו מן הצדקה כאילו עובד עבודת כוכבים כתיב הכא (דברים טו, ט) השמר לך פן יהיה דבר עם לבבך בליעל וגו' וכתיב התם (דברים יג, יד) יצאו אנשים בני בליעל מה להלן עבודת כוכבים אף כאן עבודת כוכבים
Furthermore, R. Hiyya b. Rav of Difti taught: R. Joshua b. Korha said: Anyone who hides his eye from tzedakah is like one who worships idols, for here it is written, “Beware that there be not a base thought in your heart” (Deuteronomy 15:9) etc. and there it is written, “Certain base fellows have gone out” (Deuteronomy 13:14)–just as there [the crime is that of] idolatry, so here it is idolatry.
Sifrei Devarim
"lest there be in your heart a thing belial": From here R. Yehoshua b. Karchah was wont to say: Averting one's eyes from charity is tantamount to serving idols, it being written here "belial," and elsewhere (re idolatry) "belial." Just as there, idolatry is meant, here, too, idolatry.
