Midrash for Sanhedrin 54:16
ובנים בעון אבות לא והכתיב (שמות לד, ז) פוקד עון אבות על בנים
[To revert to the text.] Are not children then to be put to death for thesins committed by their parents? Is it not written, Visiting the iniquitiesof the fathers upon thechildren?<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' Ex. XXXIV, 7. ');"><sup>27</sup></span>
Sifrei Devarim
From (Devarim 24:16) "Fathers shall not be put to death by cause of sons, and sons shall not be put to death by cause of fathers," we learn that they (i.e., kin) do not testify against each other. We hereby infer (that to secure testimony against an inciter to idolatry) witnesses are sequestered against him.
