Midrash for Sanhedrin 54:18
כדתניא (ויקרא כו, לט) ואף בעונות אבותם אתם ימקו כשאוחזין מעשה אבותיהם בידיהם אתה אומר כשאוחזין או אינו אלא כשאין אוחזין כשהוא אומר איש בחטאו יומתו הרי כשאוחזין מעשה אבותיהן בידיהן
As it has been taught:And also in the iniquities of their parents shall they pine away withthem,<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' Lev. XXVI, 39. ');"><sup>29</sup></span>
Sifrei Devarim
From (Devarim 24:16) "Fathers shall not be put to death by cause of sons, and sons shall not be put to death by cause of fathers," we learn that they (i.e., kin) do not testify against each other. We hereby infer (that to secure testimony against an inciter to idolatry) witnesses are sequestered against him.
