תניא רבי שמעון בן אלעזר אומר אין לך טפח מלמעלה שאין תהום יוצא לקראתו שלשה טפחים והא תניא טפחיים לא קשיא כאן בעבודה כאן בשאינה עבודה
It is further related of R'Eliezer that once he stepped down before the Ark and recited the twenty-four benedictions<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' V. supra 15a.');"><sup>7</sup></span> [for fast days] and his prayer was not answered.

Our Father, our King, you are our Father. Our Father, our King, we have no King besides You. Our Father, our King, grace us and answer us, as we have no [good] deeds. Do charity and kindness with us for the sake of Your great name, and save us. And we do not know what we shall do, but our eyes are upon You. Remember Lord, Your kindnesses, for they are from forever. Let Your kindness, Lord, be upon us, as we have supplicated from You.
