א"ר טבי א"ר יאשיה כל המרפה עצמו מדברי תורה אין בו כח לעמוד ביום צרה שנאמר (משלי כד, י) התרפית ביום צרה צר כחכה א"ר אמי בר מתנה אמר שמואל ואפילו מצוה אחת שנאמר התרפית מכל מקום

R. Tabi said in the name of Josiah : Whoever relaxes from words of Torah will have no strength to stand in the day of trouble; as it is said, "If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small indeed" (Prov. xxiv. 10). R. Ammi b. Mattenah said in the name of Samuel : Even [if he relax from] a single commandment ; as it is said, "If thou faint" — i.e. in any single instance.
