Reference for Berakhot 72:4

אמר רבא היכא אמרינן דנעשה שומר לפרי היכא דאיתיה בין בתלוש בין במחובר הכא במחובר איתיה בתלוש ליתיה

Raba replied : When do we declare a thing to be the protection of the fruit ? When it is so either plucked or attached [to the tree] ; but here [the bud is only a protection] when attached, but not when plucked.
