אתאן לרבן שמעון בן גמליאל דאמר פחות מארבעה לבוד דאי רבנן משלשה ועד ארבעה שלשה וארבעה חד הוא

Does not this represent the view of<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' Lit., 'we came to'.');"><sup>1</sup></span> R'Simeon B'Gamaliel who laid down that the law of labud is applied [to a gap that is] less than four handbreadths?<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' By making a distinction between four and less than four, in which latter case where the gap exceeds the standing part it is forbidden to sow even over against the standing part, whereas in the former it is permitted - the Mishnah presumably follows R. Simeon b.
