Responsa for Berakhot 11:1

R. Jose b. Hannina answered : He is worthy of the following blessings ; as it is said,] "Oh that thou wouldst hearken to My commandments! Then would thy peace be as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea ; thy seed also would be as the sand, and the offspring of thy body like the grains thereof ; his name would not be cut off nor destroyed from before Me" (Is. xlviii. 18 f.).

Teshuvot Maharam

Q. Ten Jews are present in the synagogue; one of them is praying privately and can not join in the responding of Amen. May the remaining nine persons conduct congregation services and recite Kaddish and Barku?
A. Yes, although it is better to wait and give the tenth person an opportunity to join in the response of Amen.
