Responsa for Berakhot 11:18

בימינו זו תורה שנאמר (דברים לג, ב) מימינו אש דת למו ובזרוע עוזו אלו תפילין שנאמר (תהלים כט, יא) ה' עוז לעמו יתן

"By His right hand" means Torah ; as it is said, "At His right hand was a fiery law unto them" (Deut. xxxiii. 2); "by the arm of His strength" means Tefillin, as it is said, "The Lord will give strength unto His people" (Ps. xxix. 11).

Teshuvot Maharam

Q. Ten Jews are present in the synagogue; one of them is praying privately and can not join in the responding of Amen. May the remaining nine persons conduct congregation services and recite Kaddish and Barku?
A. Yes, although it is better to wait and give the tenth person an opportunity to join in the response of Amen.
