MISHNAH If a man said the benediction over wine before the meal, he is exempt from saying it over the wine after the meal. If he said it over the dainty served before the meal, he is exempt from saying it over the dainty served after the meal. If he said it over the bread, he is exempt from saying it over the dainty; over the dainty, he is not exempt from saying it over the bread. Bet Shammai declare : Nor from saying it over a cooked dish.

Q. Must we recite the blessing al hagefen after drinking the wine of kiddush and habdalah [before beginning the meal]?
A. Since reciting the blessing over the wine of kiddush and habdalah obviates the necessity of reciting another blessing over the wine drunk during and after the meal, the drinking of the wine of kiddush and habdalah forms part of the meal, and the reciting of the al hagefen after such wine and before the meal is unnecessary.
