ר' יוחנן ור' אלעזר דאמרי תרוייהו כיון שנצטרך אדם לבריות פניו משתנות ככרום שנאמר כרום זלות לבני אדם

R. Johanan and R. Eleazar [offer another explanation]. They both say : As soon as a man stands in need of the help of his fellow-creatures, his face changes like a Kerum ; as it is said, "Kerum is vileness to the sons of men."
