Commentary for Berakhot 13:5

R. Johanan also said in the name of R. Jose : Whence is it that we should not try to appease a man in the time of his wrath? As it is written, "My face shall go and I will give thee rest" (Exod. xxxiii. 14). The Holy One, blessed be He, said to Moses, "Wait for Me until My wrathful countenance shall have passed away, then I will give thee rest."

Cf. "R. Simeon b. Eleazar said : Do not appease thy fellow in the hour of his anger, and comfort him not in the hour when his dead lies before him, and question him not in the hour of his vow, and strive not to see him in the hour of his disgrace." Abot iv. 23, Singer, pp. 197 f.
