Halakhah for Sanhedrin 41:12

תניא נמי הכי לא ירבה לו נשים יותר מעשרים וארבע למאן דדריש וי"ו ארבעים ושמנה הוו תניא נמי הכי לא ירבה לו נשים יותר מארבעים ושמנה

— R.Hisda said: She had no child until the day of her death, but on the day ofher death she did.<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' I.e., she died in child-birth. ');"><sup>22</sup></span> Let us see then: His children are enumerated [as born] in Hebron, whereasthe incident with Michal<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' As a consequence of which she was punished with childlessness. ');"><sup>23</sup></span>

From the laws of the commandments is that which they, may their memory be blessed, said (Sanhedrin 21a) that it is permitted to marry up until eighteen wives, but not more - and even if they are like Avigail, who was righteous, alacritous and good. [This] and the rest of its details are in the second chapter of Sanhedrin. And this is from the commandments which are only upon the king.
